I know I’ve had a lot of basketball pictures lately, but that’s what we’ve been up to mostly. I am still not a full fledged basketball Mom, and I know this because a real basketball Mom wouldn’t have to ask so many questions, but I’m loving it. I am so impressed at how well Christian is doing seeing as this is his first year. He was the 2nd highest scorer on his team during this game. He jukes just as well as he does during football season although I’m sure it’s called something else in basketball…He steals the ball like he’s been doing this for years…And he scores goals!You can’t ask for more than that!

Remember Back in October

We went to the fair in October, yes, October, and I never edited more than a handful of pictures. I ran across those pics the other day, and found a few that I liked, so I’m sharing now, only three months late.The rides that the boys are into have changed. There are no more tiny motorcycles going slowly in a circle. Now there is spinning, swinging, and heights. I kept thinking Jackson was going to get nervous trying to keep up with the big kids, but I was wrong! I was also worried that Christian would be bored riding the things that the smaller kids were still into. Again, I was wrong. I love the fair, and look forward to it every year. I’m so glad my kids feel the same way!

The Last Two Games

Jackson’s game last week didn’t go too well. They got beat, but it didn’t stop my baby from concentrating hard. If he has the ball, that tongue is out. I hope he doesn’t bite it off.Christian’s game went a little better, but ended with the same result. It was a rough game, full of fouls.
It was still a really good game. They both were. I’m still confused most of the time, but it’s getting better.

Have I mentioned how nice my boys looked the other night? Emily and Anna looked beautiful, too!The ring bearer and the flower girl, is there anything more adorable?Jackson didn’t crack much of a smile down the aisle, and Emmy was so careful with her one petal at a time routine. They both did fantastic.And, now, for a little trip down memory lane. This handsome man was a ring bearer for his aunt when he was seven, too. Look how small he is…Come to think of it, we were all a bit smaller in those days! My boys really do clean up nice!

The boys looked so handsome for their cousin’s wedding. Jackson was ring bearer and was most excited about his shiny shoes.They were pretty shiny. They must have made him feel like dancing!

Ok, Maybe Basketball is Not So Bad

The boys had their first basketball games last night. Let me just get this out there, we are not a basketball family. Scott and I know next to nothing about basketball, so the fact that we can’t give guidance, is to say the least, difficult. Truthfully, it’s probably a blessing to the boys, but I wasn’t really looking forward to the games. A sport I don’t understand, didn’t sound like much fun. I was so, so wrong. We did manage to find a solid white t-shirt for Christian after we realized they had pictures, and he didn’t really need to be sporting an Isle of Capri tee peeking our of his jersey, not that he was concerned. He was a little worried about sucking, since he got such a late start in this sport, but Jackson was nothing but excited.Can you tell that Jackson tries to be just like his big brother?Jackson’s game was first, and he got the whistle blown on him within 20 seconds. I was worried.Then he started getting rebounds, passing and stealing the ball. Then it happened…He scored a goal, or a basket, or 2 points, or whatever you call it, and I could tell he was good at this sport I knew nothing about, and he loved it.And while my butt and back begged for mercy from the bleachers, my heart swelled, and basketball seemed less stupid.Still confusing as hell to me, but much less stupid. They won 14 to 9.Christian had the late game. Scott and I could tell he was nervous. He was doing his nervous walk.
But, then the game started, and his nervous walk disappeared. He scored once.Then he scored again.And again. And we all wondered why he waited to start playing until now. Basketball seemed even less stupid.And in that 4th hour of sitting on those unforgiving and torturous bleachers, I figured some things out. I don’t know what to call it when they make a shot, and I seriously don’t know why they are blowing the whistle most of the time, and traveling, well, I may never figure that one out, but basketball games are really, really fun, and not stupid at all! Hopefully over the course of the season, I’ll seem less stupid, but all kidding aside, I can’t make any promises!

Christmas Come Early

Our boys recently decided they wanted a basketball goal. Funny thing, our neighborhood had this covenant saying you could only have them behind the house, and we didn’t have a spot big enough behind the house to fit one. Most everyone thought the covenant was stupid, but no one ever did anything to change it, including me. It had never been an issue for our baseball and football playing, hunting, fishing boys. Luckily, Ms. Laura & Mr. John took on the daunting task of changing the covenants, and they did it! My boys couldn’t be more happy!
This is the first year they have played basketball, and the goal is truly their new favorite thing.Jackson plays on an 8 foot goal, so I was surprised to see him making it on the full size goal. Not to worry, we can get it down to 8 feet, but he doesn’t want us, too. The goal was set up by yesterday afternoon, and the boys played until way after dark.Thank you Ms. Laura & Mr. John!

It’s About Time

I’m normally not this far behind. Okay, who am I kidding? I’m usually this far behind. Normally, I’d be freaking out right about now, but this year, we are just going to let it go. The Christmas village hasn’t been put out, Christmas card pictures haven’t been taken, and I haven’t made a single baked good to send to school. And honestly, no one has even noticed. They seem to be enjoying themselves regardless. So far, the highlight was when after getting the entire Christmas tree decorated, about 2/3rds of the lights went out. We got most of them back on, and I decided that it was good enough. The next day we were decorating the little tree in the dining room, and half the lights went out. I just walked away. It is still half lit, and half decorated. Again, no one even noticed. I’m sort of digging these laid back holidays.
