Christmas Come Early

Our boys recently decided they wanted a basketball goal. Funny thing, our neighborhood had this covenant saying you could only have them behind the house, and we didn’t have a spot big enough behind the house to fit one. Most everyone thought the covenant was stupid, but no one ever did anything to change it, including me. It had never been an issue for our baseball and football playing, hunting, fishing boys. Luckily, Ms. Laura & Mr. John took on the daunting task of changing the covenants, and they did it! My boys couldn’t be more happy!
This is the first year they have played basketball, and the goal is truly their new favorite thing.Jackson plays on an 8 foot goal, so I was surprised to see him making it on the full size goal. Not to worry, we can get it down to 8 feet, but he doesn’t want us, too. The goal was set up by yesterday afternoon, and the boys played until way after dark.Thank you Ms. Laura & Mr. John!

Tonight, we’ve been sitting around like it isn’t Halloween or something! Here are a few more pictures from when we were celebrating. Some of the kids came over a little early, so I had to get a group pic. Also, another one more of my football player and Commander Fox peeking an eye out at me.While we were all waiting on trick or treat time, a werewolf rode up. ADORABLE!Then, he stopped and waved. Even more adorable.Nothing could compare to this cuteness. She has the sassy witch pose down perfectly!Last, but certainly not least, Ian, Orion and James were here, all suited up and ready. It just isn’t a party until Sponge Bob shows up!

Meet Kingston

Aren’t puppies just the sweetest thing? Colleen brought her new baby over to play today, and we all fell in love! Here is the proud Momma, because you know having a new puppy is just like having a new baby in the house. Say goodbye to a good night’s sleep. But it’s just so worth it!!!!Fergie had so much fun playing with the little tyke.
Colleen said he slept the whole way home, and for three more hours when he got there. I guess Fergie wore him out. Fergie is sound asleep on the back of the couch as we speak, so it goes both ways. I just love puppies!

Smoky Bokeh

If you aren’t into photography, then this probably will be some completely useless information for you. In fact, I can’t promise that it will be helpful either way. In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image. Depending on my settings, sometimes you’ll notice that my background is all out of focus. When I do this, it’s usually because I want to blur out the distracting background and put the focus on my subject, but I also love me some pretty bokeh! Okay, so for what I learned…Scott burned some stuff in the backyard this weekend, and we were there helping, which of course means standing around not helping at all.
Turns out smoke makes for some fancy bokeh.Check out the background in the next picture. It looks like brush strokes, and I’m digging it. Right about the time I realized this, Andrew came over, the Saints kicked off, and the fire went out. I can see that I’m going to be looking for things to set on fire in the future. Watch out!

I’m Back

Computer — Check! Camera — Check! Cooperative subjects… uh, not so much. They were too busy watching The Outlaw Josie Wells. Watching a movie with my kids is what I imagine it must be like to be questioned after a murder. The questions are one right after another and they last for hours, or at least however long the movie does. By the end, you will tell them anything, and sometimes even make stuff up. Scott would probably lump me in the same category of movie watcher as the kids, but I’m not THAT bad.

The only time they were willing to let me take a few pictures with my freshly cleaned camera was while they were outside, and they had to be silly.
Okay, well, except this one.
It’s been days since I held my camera, okay, only a few, but still. I was willing to take whatever I could get.

I Was There, Too

While we were taking pictures at the beach with friends, they got a few snaps of us, too. Zac Jones took this picture of me taking pictures of the kids. This is probably more me than any other picture in the world. Thank you Zac. I love it! Kelli managed to get one of all four of us, which never happens. Don’t be jealous of my frizzy hair. Thank you Kelli for capturing one out of only a handful of pictures I have of all four of us. Remind me to do that again sometimes.

Second Graders are So Cool

One of our neighbors called today saying they couldn’t finish their watermelon and could we help. I really have the best neighbors. I knew just the weirdos for the job. Jackson, Cole, Drew and Christian were all over it. It’s not cool to take pictures of Middle Schoolers while they eat watermelon, but second graders, totally cool with it.Don’t you just love that about them!

Coming Home

We worried all day about our boys, just hoping they would both have a good day. Finally, the time came to pick Jackson up. Looking good so far…A little squinty from the sun, but he doesn’t look like he was tortured all day. I’m hopeful.When he got close I realized he was covered in sweat from the bus ride home, but other than that, completely happy.On the ride home he told me he made a couple friends and he really liked his new teacher. I can’t ask for anything more than that!Now, for the one we were unsure of… would Christian get off the bus with a look of complete devastation? Wellllllllllll……..NO!The boys strolled into the neighborhood positively joyful.When I asked about his day, he said it was okay. He only went to the wrong classroom once, and he’s sure he won’t like Math. He loves his Social Studies teacher, and he felt the most comfortable in his Connections class because it was so small. Overall, he didn’t really like it. I didn’t believe him. Finally Scott asked him again with the disclaimer of I know it’s school, and it’s not cool to say you like it, but is 6th grade doable? His response without hesitation was, “Oh yeah!” So while he won’t be admitting it anytime soon, he likes the Middle School and I know he’s conquered another fear. The unknown is a scary, scary thing.

Hacker Clan

Some of our friends we met in Destin were down this week. They are all still there and I’m beyond jealous that I’m missing it. Every year they round everyone up one night and take pictures at the beach. We tagged along. They have their own photogs in the group, but it’s difficult to snap a picture and be in it so I helped with a few group shots. Pretty big group of friends and family, huh?Wait, those two blond-headed ones aren’t part of the Hacker clan!Well, this week they were! We had a blast guys. Can’t wait to see y’all again next year!

All-Stars Complete

It was truly painful to watch at times, and I can imagine it was even more painful to play, but it’s over and we’ll refer to it as a very interesting character-building experience. How does that sound? I’m a little worried he’ll never step foot on a baseball field again. The good part is that they have short memories, and by next year, this tournament will be forgotten, and hey, they got to play a little baseball, right?Okay, maybe not forgotten, but a distant hazy bad memory, and while he doesn’t believe it, he did really good.We may not have won a game, but dammit, we had the best looking uniforms out there, and you can’t beat that, so don’t even try!
