Thanks to Mom and Dad, I have a computer!!! They were over in Mobile and picked it up for me on their way back, not that it was on their way. I dropped my camera off the same day thinking it was the perfect time to have it cleaned. They said it would be ready today, but they were too slow. Mom said they’d wait for it, but since I wasn’t sure they would really finished, I told her to come on back. So, even though I’m computer ready, I’m not camera ready, hence this picture I took on the way home last week. Don’t worry, I was on a deserted road, and I stopped to snap the pic in my rear-view mirror. So, until I have more pictures to share… Happy Trails!

Hunting Butterflies

I feel a little guilty that this may be my last post for awhile, and it’s just butterflies, but it is what it is. I was watching Ole Miss play football by myself yesterday, and I got so disgusted that I went outside to take pictures of butterflies. I was watching alone because everyone in my family wrote them off after the whole Black Bear thing, well, except Jackson, but he doesn’t have much of an attention span. Don’t get me wrong, I am by no means a Black Bear supporter, but something in me still feels like a Rebel. That part of me is disappearing little by little every day, in fact, on this day, it was knee deep in the lantana with a camera.It always feels like I’m looking in on some really private moments when I take pictures of butterflies. It also makes something I usually find beautiful look a little creepy. When Jackson got word that I was looking for butterflies, he was in. Be very, very quiet, I’m hunting butterflies!See that little butterfly trying to sneak by him? Well, Jackson didn’t!My computer is heading to the doctor tomorrow, hopefully it will be a quick fix, but in the event that it isn’t, I’ll be back when I can.

Hummingbird Central

Has it really been a year since I took pictures of hummingbirds at Mom & Dad’s house? Mom brought me a hummingbird feeder over after last time and we filled it occasionally. Then, it hung there empty and right around the time the hummingbirds came back in town we had a storm. It ripped the bracket out of the tree and broke my feeder. I should go get another one, but it isn’t in the best spot to take pictures, and besides, all the birds are down at Mom’s house!Seriously, they are everywhere. I can stand just a few feet from the feeder and watch, and it never phases them. Security in numbers, I suppose.So, it looks like I won’t be replacing my feeder, but riding my bike over to Mom’s for a photo-shoot once a year. That works for me!

Silly Question

We are having the neighborhood landscaping guy give us some help in our flowerbeds. Turns out, Scott, nor I, have any talent in the gardening department and our yard always manages to look like a Monet. From the road it looks okay, has all the elements you think it should, but if you get up close, it’s just a big ole mess lacking the finer details. Plants were overgrown, weeds were thriving and there was no rhyme or reason. I had no idea how to fix it except the weed issue which I was working on. So in comes landscape guy with plenty of ideas and expertise, both we were lacking. I’m okay with all the ideas, except I can’t get on board with elephant ears, they just aren’t my thing. Oh, and the whole purpose for my post, he wants to move my Crepe Myrtles from in front my door. He says it blocks the view of the front of my house, which it does, but I’ve always been okay with. Scott liked the idea, he’d wanted to open it up like that for awhile, but I just can’t do it. Those Crepe Myrtles have been there for 8 years. It’s taken us this long to get them to a size and shape I like, although landscape man already cut them into a new shape I haven’t quite gotten used to. Not to mention, I know if we move them, they’ll die. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t, but in my mind, they are dead plants moving. I like that they block the view, it makes it feel more private. Am I a lunatic? So what is your advice, not that I’ll necessarily follow it, but you never know. I’m a gardening landscape disaster. Give it to me straight! Okay, here’s the options… Lose the trees, you don’t live in a tree-house. Lose a couple trees, open it up some. Keep the trees, fight the power. Last but certainly not least… Who cares! It’s a few trees. Do whatever the hell you want! I’m leaning towards the last one, but don’t let me sway you!

I planted this lantana a couple weeks before Spring Break, and then left for ten days. It didn’t rain once while we were gone. When we got back, they looked like they might not make it. It didn’t surprise me a bit. I forget to bring things in when it freezes. I water things too much or not enough. Fertilizing isn’t ever on my mind. Plants dying is normal around here. I decided to give it my best shot and try to bring them back to life, and whaddaya know?! It worked. Sometimes I even surprise myself.

We witnessed something in Destin that I’ve never seen or heard anything about in my life… ducks mating. I won’t go into the specifics, but let’s just say that if these were people, there would be 10 drakes awaiting trial dates as we speak.I’m scarred for life, but it’s nothing compared to what this hen went through.I wasn’t quite ready for that kind of education. All Christian would say was, “Did that just happen?” Yeah baby, it sure did. Moving on…

Azaleas in Bloom

The azaleas are blooming, and I needed pictures. I decided that I’ve seen pictures of azaleas a zillion times. I’d rather see pictures of my boys, because I never see those!Who cares if they are filthy and covered in bug spray, always worth it! The pink blobs behind him are my azaleas. Not bad, huh? Happy Spring!

Redneck of the Month

The boys went with Maw Maw & Paw Paw to eat and the arcade, so Scott and I do what any parents left kid-less on a Friday night do, we rode around the neighborhood on the 4-wheeler with a glass of wine, for me at least. What? You don’t do that? Is that weird? We watched the alligator for 20 minutes with his top half underwater. I think he’s dead or something. I’m going to check tomorrow. Then Scott took me to the lot that he knows I want and I took some pictures.I mean, how can you not want that… just a little?The sun was setting, and the moon was rising… perfect time of day.On of our neighbors called to check on us, and asked if that was me hanging on the back of the 4-wheeler. When Scott said yes, he awarded us something better than the Yard of the Month tulip, we are officially the Rednecks of the Month! I hope this honor comes with a sign to stick in my front yard.

Is it Spring?

I wanted to get a few shots of the pear tree blooming in the front yard before it was over, so Jackson and I braved the gnats to snap a few. The only thing I could get him to do was hang from a limb, so I decided I’d just focus on the tree itself. While it is pretty, I like the monkey boy better.
