It’s a Generational Countertop Thing

When I was growing up, I used to spend the majority of my time in my house sitting on our countertops. I would eat up there, I’d lay on the bar and watch TV, I’d even do school projects with my butt plastered on our Formica. My mom must have asked me 3 million times to sit in and chair, but I never lasted long. It would start with one leg, and before long, I’d be comfortably curled in the middle of our breakfast bar. Somewhere along the way she gave up, but I bet she bleached that thing every couple hours. Jackson has the same fascination with our kitchen counters. Last night, as I saw his freshly bathed feet planted right where I fix our food, I started to ask that he sit in a stool, but I stopped myself. Instead I just smiled and took a picture. Granted, I did wipe down everything with bleach, but I just couldn’t take it away from him. Thanks Mom for not taking it away from me.

Go Go Gadget Ice Chest

One of our neighbors has this really cool ice chest. We saw him riding with his baby boy one day, and he stopped and let Christian take it for a spin. This little thing will go 20 mph, not that anyone ever does, but it will. The owner told us that a few of the kids in the neighborhood come and borrow it occasionally and ride it around. Sure enough the next day they rode it down to the house. He rigged it somehow to not go so fast since it seems to be the new neighborhood toy. Well, my boys aren’t allowed to go down to their house and knock on their door to borrow it, but they did get to go for a ride, well, one did. Jackson opted out. I have a feeling Christian just thought of something to go on his Christmas list. If it could negotiate sand, it might be worth my while!

Finger Lickin’ Good

Jackson has a new favorite food edging out his past loves of beanie weenies and my chicken salad. For a picky eater, he makes some strange food choices. I’m not complaining, merely commenting. The rest of us were already fans and welcome any excuse to have crawfish. The only downside for Jackson is that he hasn’t mastered peeling. He can do it, just not as fast as he’d like to eat, so we try to take up the slack. Christian is already a pro.Although, occasionally they cut up his fingers and sting like fire. Again, we try to take up the slack when we can. Sometimes it does the same to me, and poor Scott gets stuck with the majority of peeling.He doesn’t mind. When we find something this kid will eat and the rest of us will enjoy…

well, we jump on it, suck the heads, lick the fingers and call it a day. That sounded gross, but when you are talking about crawfish it really isn’t, I promise.‘

Baseball Interrupted

We didn’t finish one inning tonight before it started lightning. We spent about an hour in the car waiting for them to make a call and were finally sent home in the rain. Just for the record, we barely got a sprinkle at my house. What is the friggin’ deal???? The never-ending tournament resumes play tomorrow.

We’ve been on a video watching kick around here lately, so it was only natural for us to break out the new camera (our old one broke Christmas morning) and bring it to the ball field. It was just short spurts of video taken through the fence but we did get Christian at bat.

February Clean Sweep

It’s that time again. Can you believe February is over?? To be honest, the first two pictures are from December, and somehow never got posted. Jackson’s class Christmas party was rockin’! How did those slip through the cracks?Jackson practicing in the front yard,a trip to McDonald’s on one of those nights when we let them choose where to go eat…They totally chose based on games to play while they waited.Yearbook photographer has to snap a few of her kid’s class, I mean, what’s the point if I can’t do that??Lunch that he barely ate, a chef salad… Really?!Some of Christian in his room that may or not have made it…Bring on March!

Happy Valentines Day

I volunteered to make iced cookies for Jackson’s class for Valentines Day. I was thinking that I would run over to Anderson’s Bakery and grab some. It would be all easy peasy. Think again. Anderson’s is closed on Mondays, and I don’t know how to make iced cookies. Dammit! Okay, here’s where it gets better. My sister DOES know how to make them and was willing to spend her whole Sunday making them for and with me, mostly for. Who needs Anderson’s when we have Deedy!?! I was able to bring beautiful iced HOMEMADE cookies for the whole class. I know it’s hard to tell how yummy they really were with the awful lighting, but they were awesome and the kids and adults loved them. Thank you Deedy!I wasn’t invited to Christian’s party, although I sent treats there, too. 5th graders are too grown up for parent parties, but don’t tell Christian because he still would rather I come. Me, too! Thank goodness, I was still allowed to go to the 1st grade party. Jackson was opening up all his cards and leaned over to show me one from a little girl in his class. He whispered, “Momma, look it’s from K. I thought she hated me!” I didn’t have the heart to tell him that there was a list and you had to send them to all the names on it, and there was still a possibility that little K really didn’t like him. Besides, I knew that just wasn’t possible. My littlest Valentine is impossible not to love!
