As I’ve been sitting here patiently waiting on rain that will never come, I’m looking at pictures of the weather we had almost daily while in Destin. It’s like weather porn. Is there such a thing? My grass would say yes!Our scrimmage game got rained out tonight. Funny, not a drop at my house. Seriously, not one single drop! Just thought I’d share a little random.I also was checking out this fantastic picture (that I did not take) of my little sister, little brother, and Step-Mom. Not sure where they are, or what they are doing, but don’t they all look pretty? Wondering if those smiles have anything to do with rain… probably not.

Seasonal Confusion

One of the many things I love about South Mississippi is our crazy weather. We had a freeze warning last night, a fire this morning for Lulu, and temps in the 60′s this afternoon. I have flowers blooming outside like it’s Spring. You know it’s bad when your weather confuses the plants.

Cancelled Due to Inclement Weather

Oh my goodness, it is NEVER going to stop raining here. Finally this morning, we saw a window, a very tiny small person window, but a window nonetheless, and we took a shot. We scrambled over to Grayton Beach hoping for the best. Red flags, horrible under-tow, oil, and eventually torrential downpours, but there was that window… and a huge sand pile. The cousins were here so they hooked up with us and went, too. Christian and Drew were inseparable and had a great time. Emily didn’t have any fun at all. Can you tell?Uh, oh!!! Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of a tiny little window closing.

Coming Home

Before driving home, we failed to check the radar. Huge mistake. The weather was bad, so bad in fact I was sure we would never see Mississippi again. Finally, about 40 minutes from home it cleared and there was the most vibrant and gorgeous double rainbow that I have ever seen. Unfortunately I was driving, so I couldn’t really get the camera out and do much except point it in the direction I wanted, hope it focused, and snap away. Okay, so you don’t see how awesome it really was, but a snippet is better than nothing at all. Plus, we are home, so there’s a good thing… Right?

Snow Day, Uh, Okay?!

So, they canceled school today. No Valentine’s Day party, no Valentine candy, no passing out Valentines, and worst of all, no Mardi Gras parade. Jackson is still a little pissed about that last one. We waited patiently all night and most of the morning for this promised snowfall. Finally, this morning, for about 15 minutes, it happened. The ground was soaking wet, and it was 36° so there was little chance of it sticking. We stood outside, hopeful and excited, but there were no snowballs or snowmen, only 15 minutes of fluffy, icy white stuff. What a sad excuse for a snow day!

Arctic Blast

This is my house when it was a biting 17° outside. I know it’s hard to tell. Other than the frost on the roof and ground, it looks like any other day. Well it wasn’t. It was freezing. After the boys left for school at 6:40 I bundled up and went to check out the bayou. On my way I was thinking how I’d better be careful on the bridge because it was covered in ice and I didn’t want to bust it. The thought was still going through my mind when I felt my feet go out from under me on the icy grass and I tumbled down the hill. Not far, but hard. Funny how it never occurred to me about the icy hill. I got up, and made my way even more carefully to the bayou.So worth it. It may chill you to the bone, but ice is pretty. Our pipe on the pier busted, so there was plenty of it to photograph. I won’t bore you with the 150 pictures I took, but here are a few cool ones I liked.This is a screw on the railing of our pier, surrounded by frost and shot with my macro lens. Looks weird, huh? …kind of like fairy dust.Here comes Scott to check on me. He figured there was no way I had spent that much time out in those temperatures. I must have slipped on the ice and fell into the bayou.When he found me safe and sound and taking pictures of ice, he entertained himself by throwing sticks onto the ice covered bayou. The ice was only about a quarter inch, but I still can’t believe it froze our bayou. This was about the time I ran inside and sat by the fire for an hour.

Oh Yeah, That SO Happened

News flash… I live in in south Mississippi. It’s not often that our mud puddles are frozen over, or I have to bust through ice so the dogs can get water. I don’t usually have icicles hanging out of my faucet either. We’ve had a fire for a week straight and I’m still freezing. I wouldn’t survive somewhere where it was actually cold. I can’t wait until it’s so hot I sweat at night!

State of Emergency

We rode around this afternoon to see how much disarray this hurricane turned tropical storm Ida was causing. The water was a little high, and there was some rain, but so far so good.The real state of emergency is how adorable my niece is.Thank you Donna for the sweet picture of Miss Josie.
